CJI Elects New Board Members, Officers at Annual Meeting

Story continued from Home Page....

The board also elected officers for the 2010-2011 year.  Elected to the position of Board Chair was Sheila Gutterman of Gutterman Griffiths PC.  Remaining in Vice Chair positions were Elinor Miller Greenberg, Ed.D.. — EMG and Associates, Jim Scarboro – Arnold & Porter LLP, and Pete Willis – Kutak Rock. Anne Garcia of the Rose Community Foundation  will remain as treasurer and Rod Yokooji of The Food Guy Catering will serve as secretary for another year.

Bob Miller delivered the annual report (available for download to the right) making special note of the ABA award received by the CJI/CBA program Our Courts, the success of the Judicial Excellence for Colorado Dinner, the remarkable growth of the Judicial Education Fund, and the growing profile of CJI nationally and within the legal and public policy communities in Colorado.  Thanks to cost savings measures instituted by CJI staff, thoughtful oversight by treasurer Anne Garcia and the success of the Membership Breakfast, CJI will end our fiscal year in a healthy and stable position.

2010-2011 Colorado Judicial Institute Board of Directors

Board Officers and Board Members of the Colorado Judicial Institute are all volunteers.  The board plays an active role in determining the direction, priorities, and projects for the organization.  Board members who chair various committees, along with CJI staff, are responsible for seeing projects through to fruition.

Board Members are recruited through the efforts of the board development committee.  New board members are sought throughout the community, both legal and non-legal.  Requirements for new board members are a dedication to judicial independence and the desire to work for the best possible judicial system for the citizens of Colorado.  Board members are required to be members in good standing of the organization and to participate on at least one active committee,  The CJI bylaws mandate that at least 50% of board members not be in the full-time practice of law.  The board development committee recommends nominees to the membership and there is a vote to fill board positions at the annual meeting.  The annual meeting is traditionally held in late May.

Board Officers are elected each year at the annual meeting by existing board members.  Current  board officer positions include the board chair, vice chairs, secretary and treasurer.  The board officers, also known as the executive committee, are charged with the over site of the organization's activities, staff and daily operations.
