Newly Elected CJI Board Members Dr. Carolyn Jefferson Jenkins and Mark W. Pedigo

2010 CJI Newly Elected Board Members

The Board Development Committee is pleased to present Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, Ph.D. and Mark W. Pedigo, CPA as nominees to the 2010 Board of the Colorado Judicial Institute.

Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins served as the 15th president of the League of Women Voters of the United States and chair of the League of Women Voters Education Fund 1998-2002. A native of Ohio, Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins has been a League member since 1982, and is the only woman of African-American descent to head the 84 year old organization.

Reelected as president of the League in June 2000, Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins placed a high priority on issues such as increased citizen participation in the electoral process, campaign finance reform, election reform and health care, particularly for underrepresented populations. She worked to encourage women and ethnic minorities to run for public office.

Her international efforts include participation in democracy building efforts in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, The Netherlands, Israel, and work with eight African countries. She has also works extensively with NGO’s in these countries and serves on the Board of the Women Ambassadors Program at Howard University in Washington, DC. Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins moderated an unprecedented televised town hall meeting with U.N. Secretary Kofi Annan in Denver in 2001 to help Americans better understand the U.N.’s role in fighting terrorism.

Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins is a recognized authority on voting rights of African-Americans and is the author of The Road to Black Suffrage and One Man One Vote: The History of the African-American Vote in the United States. She has also contributed to numerous journals and books on election reform, most notably The Electoral College and Counting Votes: The 2000 Election.

Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Urban Education from Cleveland State University; an Education Specialist degree from Kent State University; a Master of Education from John Carroll University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western College.She currently serves as Executive Director of Learning Services for Douglas County Public Schools. She held previous positions at the University of Colorado-Denver, the Boulder Valley Public Schools, and the National Center on Education and the Economy in Washington, D.C.A recipient of numerous awards for her volunteerism and civic involvement, Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins has been recognized by Who’s Who Among Successful African-Americans, Who’s Who in American Education, Outstanding Young Woman in America Award. Most recently she was the recipient of the National Coalition of Black Civic Participation’s Civic Leadership Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award in Civic Leadership from Cleveland State University.

Mark W. Pedigo, a principal in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting Group at GHP Horwath, has more than 25 years of experience in economic damages analysis, valuation, strategic consulting, and financial analysis. In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), registered in the state of Colorado, Mr. Pedigo is also a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and a Certified Financial Forensic Analyst (CFFA). 

He joined GHP Horwath in 2002. Before that, he was a director at InteCap, Inc., (a division of Charles River Associates) and before that was a principal at Kellogg, LLC and Peterson Consulting, LLC (a division of Navigant Consulting). He has also worked in management, consultant, and senior auditor positions at, Kellogg Corporation, Asamera Inc., Southwestern Public Service Co., and Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. Mr. Pedigo holds an M.S. in Management from the University of Colorado and a B. B. A. in Accounting from Texas Tech University.Mr. Pedigo’s community involvement includes service with organizations such as American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants, Construction Financial Management Association, CSIA -Colorado’s largest technology association, Downtown Denver Rotary, Licensing Executives Society, National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and Professionals for Colorado Contractors Council.

CJI will benefit from Carolyn’s and Mark’s reputations as community leaders, their professionalism, range of influence, and unique perspectives.
